Pittsburgh has a Love Hate with Ben Roethlisberger

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

Ben Roethlisberger is the talk of the town right now in Pittsburgh, but not everyone is in love with him. He is getting a lot of publicity, ending up on South Park, in rap songs, and even has stores opening up in his honor, but certainly not for the right reasons. His deviant behavior lately is actually the cause of all the sensation. It brings in revenue however and as Pittsburgh being his home town it is no wonder that this is where a lot of the commotion is happening.

Venus Williams has troubles before US Open

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Venus Williams had jolt this week in her preparations and work to win the US Open.  In a game with Kateryna Bondarenko, a professional tennis player from the Ukraine, she lost in a 1-6 and 7-5 and 6-4 during the 2nd part of the game for the Rogers cup.  Other failures included losing to an opponent ranked 64th.

In her history, the Rogers cup has always failed to be in her grasp, eluding her the three times she has played.  With her numerous fans cheering her on, it was an extremely disappointing outcome.  For those fans who wish to cheer her on, but have yet to get tickets due to being victims of circumstance, they have a chance through the US Open sweepstakes taking place right now.  With the competition

at its highest, it promises to be an event no one should miss, if they are a real tennis fan.
As for Kateryna Bondarenko, she will go on to compete with Agnes Szavav from Hungary.  Agnieska Radwanska from Polandis her other choice to play in the third round for the cup.
Williams is trying to find the silver lining in her situation, claiming that her loss will give her time to rest and recuperate for the US Open.  The games start on August 31st.  She says that her opponent cleaned a great match that was very clean and consistent whereas she made too many errors for her taste, something she will keep in mind this Monday when she starts to compete.

Kateryna Bondarenko, for her part, feel jolted by the win.  Because Williams is such a big tennis player and with much success in her history, the win has given her a lot of confidence.  After all, if she can beat a hardcore player like Williams, she can probably take on just about anyone.  In the final set, she 20 out of 28 serving points which defined the entire set.  Her US Open tennis scores will no doubt echo her recent luck.

Jersey Air Display

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

There are many interesting and beautiful aspects of Jersey that attract numerous tourists to its shores every year. It is the largest of the Channel islands, and there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy sailing and various other water oriented activities and sports, as well as fabulous beaches to simply walk along and enjoy the views. Tourists staying in a seaside Jersey hotel this September are in store for an additional treat. On the tenth of that month, the Jersey International Air Display will take place over its shores. This is a unique spectacular show that features some of the best flyers in the field.

The natural geography of this island is a great contributor the fabulous views and ideal location for the aircraft event. It is interesting to note the display actually takes place far removed from the island’s airport, though it might interfere with some of its scheduled flights. The event includes aircraft and pilots from various countries and in the last few years has grown into a major attraction. This year there will be aircraft from The United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France and Ireland, among other countries, featured. And you can count on their being tourists from these countries there to witness the event as well.

The display is a free event, which is due in part to the tremendous sponsorship the Air Display has received. This testifies the growing interest and status of this event. It is important for tourists to be aware that the Elizabeth Castle will remain open during the event, though access to it may become limited because ferry services will be shut down for specific time periods on this day. In addition, the Grand Aviation Summer Ball will take place on September 5, preceding the display event. Whether you are able to attend the ball or not, the air show is definitely not something to be missed.

When someone says Phuket, Thailand what images come to mind? Some will say, I don’t know, never heard of it. Some will be negative. What a shame. But more often than not, people know about Phuket, people have been to Phuket, people love Phuket and people want to go back to Phuket. Why? Phuket has so much to offer tourists and that is very evident by the vast number who visit every year. Shall we start with the ideal tropical weather with the warm sparkling clear blue water and those breathtaking sunsets? This same water that is perfect for all the popular water sports, such as swimming, snorkeling, diving, water skiing, sailing, speed boating and just plain wading or lying lazily on the beach listening to the gentle waves rolling up on the clean sand. What about the awesome views, the lushness of the trees and rich vegetation? In addition there is the clean fresh air with a subtle breeze that brings the pleasant aroma of the brightly colored flowers.

However, there is so much more than nature, there is the night life with the nightclubs and bars, colorfully decorated and jumping with the loud music, favorite drinks and trendy dancing. World number one Dinara Safina ready for US Open

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Although Dinara Safina was beaten by Jelena Jankovic in the final round of the Cincinnati Open she says that she is ready to take on the US Open. Despite the loss she will not let it side track any of her US Open tennis scores.

Safina has been criticized because she hold the world number one ranking for women’s tennis without having one any of the grand slam titles of tennis. The grand slam titles include: Wimbledon, The French Open, the US Open and the Australian Open. Safina has been unable to win any of those events. Although, she is not putting any pressure on herself that she must win the US Open.

She has said in interviews that she really does want to win a grand slam title, and has her sights set on the US Open, but that if she does not win, she will just come back next year and work even harder to win herself a grand slam title. She should be able to hold onto her number one ranking through the US Open but if she does not win it, she could drop to the number two ranking or make a swiftrank back like Murray.

Safina is a tennis player out of Russia, who has been making her mark on the women’s tennis world, despite her not being able to produce a grand slam title win as of yet. So that is why her name may not be as familiar as Serena Williams or Maria Sharapova. Maria Sharapova has been trying to make a comeback ever since she suffered an injury and had to pull out of some tournaments.

The US Open will be interesting on the women’s side because it could be the chance for Safina to prove that she deserves that number one world ranking. We shall see what comes of the event. The women’s side may not be getting has much press as the men’s side because there are just not a lot of recognizable names at the top.

Dubai Activities

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Dubai is the most heavily populated city of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates. Sitting on the Persian Gulf, the major economic contributions for this city come from tourism, real estate and financial services. Tourists come from all over the world to experience Dubai. If you are wild and crazy, you will love Dubai. If you are quiet and shy, you will love Dubai. You will find out of the ordinary, exhilarating activities that test your physical prowess and courage. Or, you can just find a quiet, secluded area on one of the many beautiful and serene beaches not too far from the city to read, rest and reflect. One thing is certain, the five star hotels Dubai UAE offers will definitely be an experience all its own to enjoy and relish. The amenities are unbelievable, and the service is fabulous. You will certainly be spoiled during your stay.

As for something different, there is camel racing. This has become a very popular spectator sport in Dubai, with 15 racetracks featuring over 14,000 racing camels. There are over 9,000 handlers taking care of these camels. October thru April is the typical racing season, so if you are in Dubai at that time, be sure and put camel racing on your agenda.

If you would rather do than see, are you daring enough for a tandem sky dive? A definite heart pounding sport, you will dive from around 12,000 feet, attached to another jumper. Or if you are really daring, you can experience the free fall. Or how about a hot air balloon ride? Go up at sunrise and view the spectacular view of the Hajj Mountains. Prefer to keep your feet on the ground? What about surfing, or take a desert safari trip, charter a boat to do some fishing or just enjoy the beautiful sights. Whatever you are looking for, you’re sure to find it at Dubai.

Hottubs and Good Scents in the Desert

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Many people in the city of Phoenix are taking steps to cut down on their usage of water, for both economic and environmental reasons.  Maintaining large swimming pools and and large lawns requires the constant filling of the pool due to evaporation, and the constant watering of the lawn due to the high temperatures and the dry weather conditions.  Also, due to the more clay like consistency of the ground in the desert, most species used to plant yards and golf courses requires the use of inorganic and chemical fertilizers.

In current times, many are making a few decisions differently, opting to install smaller hottubs rather than large swimming pools, and choosing to plant species of trees and plants that are native to the desert environment in which we live.  Hottubs do require care and maintenance, but are not so labor intensive as pools.  The remain covered when not in use, which has two obvious benefits.  One being that the leaves and dirt that can fall into and wreak havoc on the filters of swimming pools, especially during the monsoon season, are kept out of the hottubs.  And secondly, the cover prevents some of the evaporation of the water that requires most pool owners, hours of refilling the pools each morning.

The choice to switch out lawns for plants indigenous to the environment not only cuts down on labor as well, but is more ecologically sound, reducing water usage and taking away the necessity for the use of chemical fertilization.  Many plant gardens with the sense of sight in mind, which is one of the elementary and important concerns, however there are many plants of the desert that also smell incredibly great.  Many are opting to plant ornamental grass throughout their yards, species that do not require feeding or cutting, along with some of the various good scented trees and flowers.  There are many to choose from such as jasmine vines or one of the species of sage plants.  Creosote bushes and Acacia trees are also wonderful options, all of which smell lovely after an early morning desert rain.  This is the perfect time to grab a cup of coffee and to relax in a backyard hottub before beginning the day.

Surfing Off the Cape, South Africa

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Many surfers have commented throughout the years, that the Peninsula of Cape Town has some of the best surf beaches.  That in the waters of the Atlantic off the coast, the waves are always easy to find.  There are so many fine surfing spots, that it does matter the direction the wind may be blowing, somewhere it will be blowing in the right direction off the shore.  Many of the best Capetown restaurants are located along the surf beaches, and there is nothing better than some nice food and relaxation after a day on the waves.  In these well known surf spots though, as in any surf towns be it Bondi Beach in Australia or Malibu Beach in California, USA, local surf spots mean that one must show respect and gain respect of the local surfers.  And as far as shark attacks go, this has not been a factor off the Peninsula.  There have been reports of great whites, but at this time, there have been no attacks.

That being said, the best spots for surfing are all located to the north and to the south of the city.  There are a few spots located in the area of Muizenberg.  The best spots to the north are Table View, Blouberg, and Big Bay.  Derde Steen is a spot however, the waves do come in very big and are more suited for beginners.  Blouberg is really the hot spot, if Blouberg is crowed then Table View is the next best place.  Most all of the spots at Blouberg are surf-able, but wet suits are necessary as the temperature of the water is fairly cold year round.  The waves here tend to be much more intense than they look, breaking often times close to the shore.  Big Bay, just next door is one of the best spots, always with big waves and relatively mild water temperatures.  Surfing in South Africa will provide one with a love of the sport, many memories and just incredible amounts of good times.

Dubai Marina and Deira Clocktower

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Dubai is a vibrant city and full of cultural landmarks and historic buildings. There is a thriving arts scene and a progressive cosmopolitan feel to this major UAE city. Visiting the city as a tourist can be an extremely enlightening and exciting event as the food, entertainment, and general scenic views are unique and inviting to Westerners. Two the major landmarks that most tourists will not want to miss are the Dubai Marina and also the Deira Clocktower. Guests staying in five star hotels in Dubai should have no difficulty in finding information on these and other major landmarks of the city.

The Deira Clocktower is also commonly referred to as the Dubai Clocktower. It is a roundabout located in the Al Rigga area of Deira at the intersection of Umm Hurair Road and Route D 89. It is the major landmark of Deira and also provides access to the Al Maktoum Bridge, which was the first land crossing to be constructed between Bur Dubai and Deira. The Clocktower was built in 1964 and throughout the years suffered from corrosion and the steal reinforcements began to crack and deteriorate. It was refurbished in 1972 and stands a major landmark of Dubai.

The Dubai Marina is a residential district and is commonly considered to be the heart of the new Dubai. It was designed and developed to be a model of the Concord Pacific Place along False Creek in Vancouver, BC, Canada. It has been developed by the UAE real estate firm Emaar Properties and is entirely man made. When completed, the marina will include some 200 high rise buildings and sky scrapers. Among them are the Infinity Tower, The Princess Tower, Marina Terrace, and the Torch Dubai Marina. Also included are the residential towers. When it is completed, it will be the largest man made marina in the world. Marina del Ray in California, USA is currently the largest man made marina.

Are you scared of public speaking? Overcome your fear

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Phobias are what people are afraid. There are common ones like spiders, snakes, death. And one of the most common phobias is the fear of public speaking . Why is our society so afraid of being tongue-tied in public?

Phobias grow from a normal fear based on reality and logic to an overwhelmingly irrational avoidance of a harmless situation.

Perhaps you are now afraid of public speaking because in 7th grade you flubbed on a speech you were giving to the class about Animal Farm. And that experience or something like it could very well be the reason a person fears public speaking as an adult. Perhaps they just require more leadership training.

People generally fear they will be judged when they step out into the public eye, and if a person fumbles over their words they may be seen as uneducated on the topic they are presenting on. This in turn, causes anxiety and then a fear of public speaking.

Public speaking is one of the nine most common phobias. Others include: bugs, mice, snakes , rats, bats, heights, water, public transportation, storms, closed spaces, tunnels, bridges and death.

Looking at the list, that’s some pretty scary stuff, it’s interesting that public speaking is also one of them. It seems relatively harmless compared to heights and snakes.

Unfortunately the only way to get rid of a phobia for good is to confront it, because public speaking really is an irrational fear. Practicing speaking in public may be easier said than done. For those who are in occupations where public speaking is a daily task, it most likely comes more natural to them. Start by speaking in front of groups of friends and neighbors, you will gradually work up to strangers. Practice will make perfect if public speaking haunts you. All it takes is a little preparation and a lot of bravery! And perhaps even some born with it leadership skills.

Explore Fountain Hills, Arizona

Friday, January 9th, 2009

Fountain Hills is a town located in the Phoenix area of Arizona. It lies just to the east of Scottsdale and to the north of Mesa. It lies in a mountainous area with wonderful vistas. The town includes a lot of natural desert landscapes.

Fountain Hills is named after the fountain located in Fountain Park. This is one of the highest fountains in the world and the water shoots into the sky to 560 feet. There are many local amenities including, hotels, restaurants, bars, and shopping as well as services including doctors Fountain Hills, and dentist Fountain Hills and if you need one for the whole family family dentist Fountain Hills.

Fountain Hills hosts many golf courses both in the town and in the surrounding area. Every February the town hosts the Great Fair with over 500 artists as well as live music and local food. There are also other festivals including a Hot Air Balloon Rally and a Festival of Arts. The area is handy for a Scottsdale guitar instructor.

Near Fountain Hills is the Fort McDowell Adventures which showcases many things from the wild west. This includes horse rides, cattle drives and hay rides. This is a great opportunity to explore the natural desert. If water sports such as boating, tubing or skiing are more your scene you can enjoy them at nearby Saguaro Lake.

Because the area is rustic there are many camping sites located in the McDowell Mountain Regional Park. Perhaps gambling is more your thing – try the Fort McDowell Casino which includes the state’s largest card room. There are also local museums and theaters and galleries to explore.

U.S. Open Tennis Predictions

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Summer time in the United States means two things: one, vacations and two, tennis season. And this year’s tennis season has been outstanding. Rafael Nadal won the French Open for a 4th straight year by shutting out Roger Federer. Then Nadal went on to win the Wimbledon. He had never won this before and he did it by beating Federer.

The U.S. Open tennis tournament should also be very exciting. Federer will try to show that he is still number one and Nadal will try to prove him wrong as he did in the last two.

For the women’s singles, I predict that Venus and Serena Williams will play each other and that Serena will ultimately be the winner. Their father will sit on the court, exactly at the net. He must feel torn in so many ways when his daughters play each other but as long as one of them wins, he wins.

2008 Wimbledon Heats Up

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

This year’s Wimbledon is as exciting as ever. Federer would like nothing better than to win, for the sixth straight time no less, and Nadal would like nothing better than to knock him off his high horse. The rivalry between the number one (Federer) and number two (Nadal) ranked tennis places always makes things heat up.

I think Federer will win again. What I’m hoping will happen is that he either retires after this season or he comes back to win the French Open next year. I don’t want him to continue playing and start losing then retire. He should go out on top and leave tennis amazed by his presence.

Aiming for Careers in Golf

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Many look at those with careers in golf and wonder if they might be able to do the same thing. After all, it is well known that individuals who hold jobs that pertain to their interests are not only happier but also more financially stable. The idea of enjoying one’s job and pay is more than intriguing for those stuck in dead end jobs that seem to go nowhere. In the golf industry, one can start out teaching golf in a school setting and move on to a top-notch golf resort in a tropical paradise. With golf being as popular as it is, creating the career of one’s dreams is rather easy compared to other professions.

For those looking to do a u turn in their career, golf schools can offer the best place to start. Many of these venues offer small classes and retain a good student to teacher ratio. This means an individual will have less chance of falling behind on classroom material. Plus, accredited courses can mean financial aid for students that qualify. This can be good news since financial aspects are well known to put a damper on starting a new career.

French Open News Directs Attention More at Men’s Singles

Friday, April 11th, 2008

This year’s French Open is sure to be as exciting as last year’s. Rafael Nadal has won the men’s singles for 3straight years. He defeated Roger Federer last year and though these 2 men will not say that they have a rivalry, it appears that 2008 might prove otherwise.

Last year’s French Open news was surprisingly quiet about the women’s singles. Justine Henin-Hardenne was also a 3 time winner when she defeated Ana Ivanovic. This competition does not seem to have the same “rivalry” aspect that the men’s does.

No matter who wins, this competition on the clay courts is sure to show who is the best player on this type of court.

Company Holiday Bonuses

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

The winter holiday season brings with it many feelings of joy. In the business world nothing brings as much joy as the elusive holiday bonus. This is the time of year where companies, large and small, show their appreciation to their empoloyees with some sort of gift. Bonuses range from useless nutcrackers to cash to concert tickets. With the Super Bowl always around the corner, some very lucky, or derserving employees will even get football tickets. The christmas bonus always makes me think of the Chevy Chase film, Christmas Vacation. Chevy keeps his cool through every possible mishap, but when he receives his christmas bonus and all it is, is a card, he goes beserk; people take their bonuses seriously.
